BILL AND THE MADDOX GROUP
While going through school, Bill worked summers doing construction and found that educational experience to be as valuable as his classwork at the university. “I think it gave me a better understanding of what it means to be a well-rounded architect and have knowledge of construction methods as well as detailing and architectural concepts. So, when we started The Maddox Group and I began hiring staff. I looked for people who had strong experience both in architecture and construction,” he says. If you were to evaluate his firm now, you would find that most everybody there has dual experience. “I think that has helped bring the different parts of the business together in a much more cohesive way.”

By incorporating construction and development into the architectural business, they bring the master builder concept to the process. “We have our own in-house contractor, project managers and superintendents; that way, we are able to control the entire process,” he explains. “Because we do our own architecture and our own construction, it eliminates a lot of potentially adversarial relationships,” Bill says. From the owner’s perspective, it’s a single source contract. Owners do not have to deal with both contractor and architect. Bill continues, “We find that our approach really appeals to a lot of people in this day and age when they are stressed and pressed for time and looking for a streamlined approach for getting to their end product.”

THE MOVEMENT CONTINUES
Although infill projects are hard to find, Bill revealed that he recently put another piece of property under contract: a 4-1/2 acre site located in a very desirable Sarasota location west of Osprey between Bay Road and Siesta Drive. “It is going to be a mixeduse community with many amenities,”

Bill says, “and it will be similar to Lincoln Park in that we are using neo-traditional concepts in terms of the development.” However, this project will be larger. It will include 17 singlefamily homes and 23 townhouses. That is great news for folks who are seeking an American lifestyle not offered by the cookie-cutter houses that comprise many subdivisions today. The project named Granada Park won’t be completely built out until January 2006, but the units will be available for sale by April 2004, and they are sure to sell quickly.

As people yearn to live in places with a sense of community, the neo-traditional movement and neighborhoods like Lincoln Park will become more popular. Lincoln Park, with its nostalgic charm and unique character, inspires fond memories and takes us back to simpler times. It is the epitome of home.
